Guild

What a wonderful afternoon was experienced on Monday 7th November at Ferintosh Parish Church Guild. It began with beautiful worship chosen and led by Tom.

After some business was attended to, the two Irenes (Struth and Munro) gave us insights into how they had gone about researching their family trees. Irene Struth had done her research without the use of the modern technology and had managed to get back to the 17th century to the famous McQuarrie of Australian fame.

Irene Munro had used the more modern approach using DNA testing and family documents which threw up the information she had 1 per cent Indian ancestry.

Again the stories which resulted in these researches were fascinating.

The meeting was then opened to all members to share their memories and stories. This was done using many photos and artifacts. Photos showed siblings, parents and grandparents in various situations, at picnics, ready for war or weddings. Artifacts included a brown pottery teapot of the type made by an ancestor, a dux medal from a school in Edinburgh, WW1 embroidered postcards, a newspaper article about seaweed gathering and a Dragoon’s sword from Covenanting times.

Such an enthralling time, no one wanted to go home as we listened to each other’s stories.

The meeting closed with “For all the saints, who from their labour rest”.
