Church News Sunday 22nd January

SUNDAY TEAS Just a reminder that there is a new list in the hall which still has a few empty spaces on it. Can you help to provide tea following Morning Worship, on an occasional basis? If so can you please add your name to the list? Your help with this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

SUNDAY CLUB AND FYF Sunday Club and FYF meet today at 10.50am. There is a Crèche for pre-school children each Sunday morning.

PRAYER GROUP The prayer meetings continue on Wednesday mornings at 10.00am in the small hall. If you would like them to pray for someone at those meetings please contact John Fraser on 861140. The Prayer Group are happy to pray for any requests which any of the congregation have. Feel free to put any in the box in the vestibule.

LADIES BIBLE STUDY The next meeting will take place on Wednesday 25th January at 1.30pm in the Church Hall. The title of the chapter in Hebrews from the study notes is “The Runners Power” which is about chapter 9. We’d be delighted to welcome you to our group. The ladies are friendly and you are not asked to “do” anything if you don’t want to but come and listen if that’s what you would prefer. Give the group a try, please.

PASTORAL CARE If you need help, don’t hesitate to call and the Team will try its best to assist. Call either your elder or the coordinator, Janette Steele (01349 861591). Remember to give plenty notice for taking you to appointments.

LOCUM MINISTER The Kirk Session is pleased to confirm that Rev. Russel Smith has been appointed our Locum Minister from 1st January. Russel will be taking 3 morning services a month and undertaking 2 days of pastoral work per week. The Kirk Session are very grateful to Russel for his kind offer to be our Locum and look forward to working with him over the coming months.

KIRK SESSION The Kirk Session at its meeting on 19th January 2017 after discussion voted Against Departing from the Church’s Established Practice with regards to Human Sexuality with regards to the current vacancy by a vote of 8 to 6.

EVENING SERVICES The Kirk Session has decided that until a new minister is appointed there will be no regular evening service on a Sunday.

GUILD On Monday 6th February at 2.00pm, we welcome to the Guild, as our speaker, Elizabeth Blackburn who will talk and show her beautiful pictures from her journey to Greenland. Over the past wee while she has shown pictures of local, wintry scenes. So this time she will be showing sunny pictures of our local area too. You don’t have to be a Guild member to come along. If this is something you’d love to see, then come along and most welcome. Bring a friend along to the Church Hall. See you there.

Members of the Guild are reminded of the Invitation to Castle Street Church Guild on Wednesday 8th February where there will be a speaker about the Guild Project “Feed the Minds” dealing with the distressing subject of Female Genital Mutilation. The meeting begins at 2.30pm in their Church Hall.

SOUP LUNCH The next Soup Lunch takes place in the Church Hall on Friday 3rd February starting at 12noon. Our speaker that day will be Terri Cunningham, “Affordable Warmth Advisor”. This should be a most interesting and informative talk so your support would be most appreciated. We look forward to seeing you there.

SOUPER SUNDAE A little advance notice. We will be holding a soup and pudding lunch after the Kirk Session led Church Service on 12th February in aid of the Church of Scotland HIV/AIDS project. Put the date in you diary for now and further details will be available next week. Hoping for your support for this worthy cause.

CRECHE We are again in need of new volunteers to help out at the crèche. Although the crèche is not required every Sunday, we do need two people each week to be available. Volunteers will need to be cleared under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme, but this is simply a matter of filling in a form with the information required for a check to be made to ensure there are no convictions or other information which would indicate a risk to children. This is completely confidential. Please consider whether you can help in this way, and speak to Janet Winchester.

World Mission Council News Letter The latest edition of this newsletter is available on the table at the back of the Church. Please take one. The main focus is on refugees and the work some of the Church of Scotland’s partner Churches are doing in different places. There is also an interesting and hopeful update on the HIV/AIDS situation.

PASTORAL DUTIES Rev’d Russell Smith can be contacted on 861011 if required for any Pastoral duties.
