One hundred thousand deaths
God of compassion, how do we even begin to comprehend the magnitude of that statistic?
Far too many homes, streets and communities devastated by Covid.
One hundred thousand faces.
Each one with their own story,
Formed in your wonderful image,
Knitted together in their mother’s womb,
By the Merciful God.
One hundred thousand love ones,
Each number a person,
Someone loved, known and cherished by you, O Loving God.
Forgive me for when 100,000 deaths is just an abstract figure.
Awake my senses to the tragedy in our nation and world:
Hospitals under pressure, Funerals far too empty,
a Tsunami of loneliness, a flood of poverty,
Millions left heartbroken and grieving.
Take my sorrows and tears, and put them to use.
Cause them to be a commission of care for the broken,
A clarion call of action for change,
And a prayer of love for the hurting.
Lord have mercy upon us.
