SUNDAY CLUB AND FYF Sunday Club and FYF resume today at 10.50am. As always there is a Crèche for pre-school children each Sunday morning.
PRAYER GROUP The Prayer Group will restart again on Wednesday 13th January at 10.00am in the small hall.
PASTORAL CARE TEAM Do you need some help? Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Team. We can usually do something for you. Contact either your elder or the coordinator, Janette Steele (01349 861591). Do leave time for arrangements to be made.
LADIES BIBLE STUDY The group returns on Wednesday 13th January to the studies in “Evangelism – A Way of Life”, in particular Crosscultural evangelism. We look again at Acts 17: 16-34. The ladies meet in the Church hall at 1.30pm for approximately one hour. We’d love to have you come along and join in this fellowship of learning together.
A PLACE AT THE TABLE As mentioned last week in Church, a total of £212.29 was donated by Ferintosh congregation to this project, aimed at helping the local protestant Church support displaced people in Syria and refugees in neighbouring countries. This should be enough to provide basic foodstuffs for a month for 10 families, or 10 basic hygiene packs. Many thanks to all who contributed.
USED STAMPS Now that Christmas is over, please remember to bring your used stamps along to Church for the World Mission Council appeal. The red box is in the annexe.
RIVER CAFÉ The first River Cafe of 2016 is to be held on Wednesday 13th January from 2pm-3.30pm in the Church hall. Whether you have joined us before, or not, we look forward to seeing you there for some tea/coffee, home baking and the all important chat.
PVG TRAINING The Presbytery Protection of Vulnerable Groups Training Coordinator has arranged a training session for all volunteers who work with children and adults within our congregation. Training is now required for all PVG certificate holders. The training session will be held here in the Church hall at 7.00 p.m. on 12th January. It is expected that the session will last for approximately 2 hours and it is likely that we will be joined by members of other congregations. In order to assist with the planning of the session it would be appreciated if you could let Hugh Fraser know if you will be able to attend at email@example.com or by phoning 01997433384.
CHURCH CONSTITUTION There will be a congregational meeting after morning worship on Sunday 24th January to discuss the Church Constitution. At the moment we operate under what is known as The Model Deed Constitution where the Kirk Session is responsible for all Spiritual matters in the Church and The Congregational Board, comprising all Elders and elected Communicant Members of the congregation look after all temporal matters (fabric and finance etc.). The main disadvantage with this is that only Communicant Members can be elected on to the Congregation Board.
Having discussed this at both Kirk Session and Congregational Board meetings the Kirk Session feel that the way forward is to adopt Unitary Constitution whereby the Kirk Session is still responsible for all Spiritual matters. However, under this Constitution, the Kirk Session would also be responsible for all temporal matters, but in this they would be assisted, not by elected Communicant Members within the Congregational Board, but by appointed committees which could include all members and adherents within the Church. We believe this would allow more people to use their specific gifts and talents to become involved in the life of our Church.
The purpose of the meeting on the 24th is to seek the congregation’s approval to proceed with this. At the meeting there will be an opportunity to ask questions and then a vote will be taken to see what the congregation wishes to do. The meeting is open to everyone and I would encourage everyone to stay and ask any questions they may want. Unfortunately however, under Church Law only Communicant Members can actually vote when the time comes.
