Church News Sunday 30th July

SUNDAY CLUB AND FYF Sunday Club and FYF are finished for the summer. There is a Crèche for pre-school children each Sunday morning.

PRAYER GROUP The prayer meetings continue on Wednesday mornings at 10.00am in the small hall. The Prayer Group are happy to pray for any requests which any of the congregation have. Feel free to put any prayers in the box in the vestibule.

PASTORAL CARE You can get help. Just try the Team. We are ready and willing to assist. Get in touch either with your elder or the coordinator, Janette Steele (01349 861591).

GUILD The members are reminded that the bus is booked to go to Perth on Thursday 10th August to meet up with the Guild members from Port

Glasgow. High Tea has also been booked at the Salutation Hotel. Please contact Janette Steele if you have not seen the menu as yet. Choices need to be made prior to arrival.

HIGHLAND FOODBANK As you will have seen on TV news, children and families are having difficulty in providing a proper meal during the summer holidays. Please, we would ask you to think about donating to the local foodbank where the need is so great. Long grain rice, tins of tomatoes, tins of corned beef, dog/cat food are still wanted too. Toiletries (e.g. shampoo, toothpaste and toilet rolls) are always required since the priority is putting food on the table and sometimes these items are beyond the budget.

NEW START HIGHLAND The collection in the Church Hall is growing. Thank you those who are contributing. Can you help?

Starter Packs: grater, colander, scale, baking tray, chopping board, cake tin, teapot, sealable containers, jug, wooden spoon, potato masher, fish slice, tin opener, ladle, mixing bowl, casserole dish.
Cleaning Packs: basin, cloth, tea towel, sponge, washing-up liquid, brush & pan set.

These items need not be brand new but obviously in very good condition, perhaps something surplus to your requirements. Please leave donations in the small hall.

World Mission Council Newsletter The most recent issue of the newsletter is now available, entitled “Celebrating the World Church”. Copies are available on the table at the back of the Church.

Reconstruction Work in Nepal We have recently received a letter for Carol Finlay of the World Mission Council with regard to the money we raised through a retiring collection to assist with reconstruction following the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. The money, £300,000 altogether from the Church of Scotland, was sent to the United Mission to Nepal, a partner organisation of the Church, with the intention that it would be used to build safe, earthquake-proof houses for those whose homes had been destroyed. In the meantime the government of Nepal has decided that it will be responsible for all reconstruction of dwelling houses, through grants to affected householders and an inspection regime to ensure standards are adhered to. It has asked voluntary organisations such as the UMN to concentrate on public buildings such as schools, and infrastructure such as roads/trails, bridges and utilities. The UMN is asking the Church of Scotland’s permission to use the donated money for such purposes, specifically to build 11 schools in addition to those it had originally pledged to build.  For full details of the letter please contact Janet Winchester.

PASTORAL DUTIES Rev’d Russel Smith can be contacted on 861011 if required for any Pastoral duties.
