Church News Sunday 10th September

SUNDAY CLUB AND FYF Sunday Club and FYF meet at 10.50am today. There is a Crèche for pre-school children each Sunday morning.

PRAYER GROUP  Prayer meetings continue on Wednesday mornings at 10am in the Church hall. Prayer is the essential powerhouse of the Church, and your participation would be greatly valued. The small group is very friendly, and there is no pressure to pray aloud if you do not wish to. The group is happy to pray for concerns of the congregation, whether for individuals or on wider issues. Please place any prayers requests in the box in the Church vestibule.

PASTORAL CARE We have dedicated people on the Team who are willing to be of assistance. Give us a call either contacting your elder or the coordinator, Janette Steele (01349 861591). Please remember to give as much notice for appointments as possible to allow arrangements to be made.

LADIES BIBLE STUDY The first meeting of the autumn session will take place on Wednesday 13th September at 1.30pm in the Church hall. There are seven studies on the book of Daniel in the Cover to Cover material. This is where we will begin. Please give it very prayerful thought if you might join us this term. All the ladies would very much welcome some new additions to our group even if you can’t come every week. Look forward to seeing you there. The meeting lasts approximately one hour.

RIVER CAFÉ The first River Cafe of the new session takes place in the Church hall on Wednesday 13th September from 2pm-3.30pm.  Why not drop in for a chat and enjoy some tea/coffee and home bakes. We look forward to welcoming you there. If you could help with providing home baking on an occasional basis, can you please add your name to the list at the back of the church or speak with Janet Murray. Your help would be greatly appreciated so that we can continue to hold this event. Many thanks.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING The Harvest Thanksgiving will be held on Sunday 24th September. The church and hall will be open on Saturday 23rd from 9.30am to receive flowers and foliage for decorating the church. If you can help in ANY way please come along – you do NOT need to be a flower arranger!  The flowers will be distributed immediately following the morning service.  Contact Jeannette Cameron 01463 870416.

At Harvest Thanksgiving this year, instead of bringing items of food for the local foodbank, the congregation is asked to donate in a retiring offering to the Elderly Feeding Programme in Viyele Congregation in Malawi. This is a programme Ferintosh congregation has supported in the past, but it is some time since we did so. As it is not possible at the present time to send goods to Malawi, the Session decided on this retiring offering instead. For more details about the Elderly Feeding Programme, see Ferintosh Focus.

NEW START HIGHLAND The goods donated have been delivered to the depot in Inverness. It was wonderful to see the spacious boot of the car full with all your items. Thank you so much for the wonderful generosity shown to people less well off than ourselves. (See pictures in Ferintosh Focus – out soon)

HIGHLAND FOODBANK  In the latest letter of thanks for the Foodbank, it states that in the last financial year, they have helped over 6000 people throughout the Highlands. Unfortunately, the level of need remains high. The items Ferintosh Parish Church are asked to donate this month are as follows: cartons of long-life juice; tins of custard, tins of corned beef; tins of fruit; sugar; biscuits. Just one item extra for the shopping basket? As well as providing enough food to last 3 meals for 3 days to people who would otherwise go hungry, the foodbank volunteers take the time to listen and signpost clients to further support. Thank you for your help.

CROSSREACH An example of the latest Wall Calendar for 2018 is available at the rear of the Church (after service in Hall). There is a list for names for orders either for the wall calendar or the appointments calendar which has the same views. The wall calendar is a very reasonable £5 and the appointments one £4.50.  A few copies of the catalogue are to hand for anyone who wants to order other Christmas items. By getting the order in early we should be able to have the calendars to hand for posting abroad.

HIGHLAND SUPPORTS REFUGEES We have received a thank you card from Highland Supports Refugees following the event held in our hall last month. the card is displayed in the hall beside the serving hatch.

WORLD MISSION COUNCIL USED STAMPS APPEAL Thanks to everyone who donated used stamps over the past year. Thanks particularly to all those (the majority) who trimmed them neatly, saving a lot of work to prepare them to hand over to the dealer. An almost full “bag for life” was handed over last weekend, which is a huge amount of stamps. Thank you again.
PASTORAL DUTIES Until 18th September pastoral duties will be covered by Rev’d Scott Polworth who can be contacted on 01436 870259.
